Guana go to the Park?

We took a field trip today!  Donna and I took the kids and my niece Alexis to Guana Park in Ponte Vedra Beach.  They have a beautiful educational center there, and lots of hiking trails.  We had a wonderful day!  The kids loved it!

We started out in the Educational Center where they did a scavenger hunt and saw a bald eagle and its nest.   There was so much for us to see!  The ceiling was covered with life sized models of sea life that is found off our coasts; manta rays, Right Whales, dolphins, sharks, fish, sea turtles, the list just keeps going!  In the middle of the room was a GIANT life sized diorama of a Florida Estuary.  It was neat to see all the animals in their natural habitat.

Afterwards we had a picnic lunch and then  headed off to the nature trails.  We didn't have a lot of time, but we managed to squeeze in a mile and a half hike!  The kids took special delight in pointing out the ginormous spiders, and when we stumbled upon a rather large black snake they seemed intent on ticking it off by chucking sticks and other rubble at it.  After a stern reprimand, we headed back to the car and civilization.   I am a BIG fan of AC and pest control, so while I throughly enjoyed our little field trip to the wilds of Florida, I was more than content to return home!

Here's a slideshow of the trip! (I've become addicted to this "Smile Box" application!  Do you like the sideshows better than the parade of pictures I used to do?)
